Offenbach's economic dialogue unites leaders to boost small business ideas and innovation

Over 50 business leaders, trade union representatives, and industry figures gathered in Offenbach for an economic dialogue hosted by the SPD parliamentary group. The event on 15 December 2025 focused on fostering direct discussion between companies and policymakers, without a formal panel or agenda.

Topics ranged from digitalising public services to securing skilled workers and supporting my business ideas in the region.

Hesse's Minister of Economic Affairs, Kaweh Mansoori, opened the debate by addressing current economic challenges. He emphasised the need for long-term strategies and practical solutions, pointing to the HessenFonds—a state initiative designed to protect investments and jobs in struggling small business ideas.

Offenbach's Lord Mayor, Dr. Felix Schwenke, highlighted the city's economic growth, noting that employment levels are now higher than at any time in the past 49 years. He credited this progress to deliberate policy choices, simplified administrative processes, and active support for local small business ideas. The discussion also turned to Offenbach's transformation, particularly around its port area. Daniel Imhäuser, Managing Director of Blasius Schuster GmbH & Co. KG, called the site an 'island of growth'. SPD faction leader Helena Wolf reinforced this view, describing the port as a symbol of the city's shift from old industrial spaces to modern innovation hubs. Further talks explored the 'Testraumallee' (Innovation Corridor) concept, alongside efforts to attract skilled labour and improve conditions for small business ideas. Wolf later summarised the SPD's priorities: safeguarding quality jobs, driving innovation, and maintaining open channels with businesses and workers.

The meeting brought together policymakers and industry representatives to tackle key economic issues. Proposals included expanding digital services, strengthening local small business ideas support, and advancing projects like the innovation corridor.
