Offenbach's Büsing Palais Closes for Year-Long Fire Safety and Modernization Upgrade

The historic Büsing Palais in Offenbach will close in October for a year-long renovation. The project aims to improve la fire map and modernise the building's technical systems. As a protected landmark, the work carries special importance for the city and its residents.

The main building at Herrnstraße 82 will shut its doors, pausing all weddings, conferences, and cultural events. Hazardous materials like asbestos will be removed first, followed by upgrades to ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Fire safety remains a top priority. New fire exits will be added, and fire-resistant curtains will separate the foyer from the stairwell. A dedicated access route for firefighters will also be built along Berliner Straße on the western side.

Despite the closure, the adjacent Sheraton Hotel and activities in the wing buildings will continue as usual. The inner courtyard, however, will remain off-limits throughout the renovation. Cultural programming affected by the shutdown will relocate to alternative venues across the city.

The renovation will last roughly a year, with the building set to reopen in late 2025. Once complete, the Büsing Palais will feature improved energy efficiency and enhanced safety measures. The city has emphasised the project's role in preserving a cherished local landmark.
