Offenbach raises street cleaning fees for property owners in 2024
Offenbach has updated its street cleaning fees, with new regulations coming into force on 1 January 2024. The changes will see higher costs for many property owners, driven by inflation and rising operational expenses. Not all residents will be affected, as some streets remain under private houses cleaning responsibility.
The revised fee structure applies to streets cleaned by Stadtwerke Offenbach, covering inner-city areas, busy main roads, and central shopping streets. Property owners will still handle cleaning for sidewalks and sections directly in front of their parcels.
Fees are determined by a points system that assesses development density, tree count, and traffic volume. Under the new rules, a small property with 10 metres of frontage cleaned weekly will pay €88.88 annually, up from €75.60. Larger properties, such as those with 36 metres of frontage cleaned seven times a week, face a bigger increase—from €1,922 to €2,268 per year. Only three streets will shift to a higher houses cleaning category, meaning more frequent sweeps and higher charges. The adjustments reflect rising costs, including wage hikes for sweepers, quieter machinery, increased waste taxes, and fleet maintenance. Residents on streets where owners manage houses cleaning will see no change in fees.
The updated fees take effect in January, with most increases tied to inflation and operational demands. Property owners in affected areas will pay more, while those on privately maintained streets remain unaffected. Stadtwerke Offenbach will continue covering costs for municipal roads and public spaces.
