Offenbach Enhances Cycling Safety with New Refuge Island on K 174
Offenbach district is enhancing its cycling infrastructure, with a new central refuge island set for installation on the K 174 from June 24 to July 5, 2024. This project, part of the district's ongoing mobility strategy, aims to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.
The Cycling Roundtable, celebrating its tenth anniversary, has provided valuable input for these news improvements. The new island at Eulerweg/K 174 is the fifth implemented under the crossing points program, with more locations under review. Temporary traffic disruptions are expected during construction, with single-file traffic directed using temporary signals.
The existing central island on the K 174 at the Grenzschneise junction in Dietzenbach will also receive an upgrade, with solar lights to be installed. This retrofit, along with the new installation, underscores the district's commitment to pedestrian and cyclist safety, a key priority in its mobility strategy since 2013. The total cost for the new installation is estimated at around €48,000, with 60% covered by the Strong Homeland Hesse program.
The Offenbach district continues to work towards eliminating hazardous spots and improving crossing points, with a focus on enhancing cycling news infrastructure. The new central refuge island on the K 174 is a testament to this commitment, contributing to the district's goal of providing comfortable and safe cycle paths, which currently span approximately 500 kilometers.
