Simply gone: Local signage stolen in Oestrich-Winkel - Oestrich-Winkel Hit by Spate of Town Sign Thefts
Oestrich-Winkel has been struck by a wave of town sign thefts, with over ten signs indicating the 50 km/h speed limit in built-up areas vanishing this week. The pilfered signs, priced between €200 and €300 each, have caused substantial damage and additional repair costs.
This isn't the first instance of such crimes in Oestrich-Winkel. Similar thefts have been reported in other state regions, such as Korbach and Metzlos-Gehaag. The local regulatory office is now appealing to residents for information to apprehend the culprits.
The thieves, likely operating under the cover of darkness, damaged concrete bases and toppled metal posts. The stolen signs, vital for road safety, mark the entrances to the town in the Rheingau-Taunus district. In Poppenhausen, town signs are regularly targeted due to its unique name, but the perpetrator remains unidentified.
The thefts have resulted in at least €10,000 in damages, with each stolen sign costing between €200 and €300. The local authorities urge anyone with information to step forward and assist in bringing the culprits to justice.
