Oberursel hit by brazen burglary and lottery scam in one week
Two separate crimes have shaken residents in Oberursel this week. A woman lost thousands of euros to phone scammers posing as lottery officials. Meanwhile, burglars broke into an apartment on Alexander-Hess-Straße, stealing cash and jewellery in broad daylight. On Thursday, October 30, 2025, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., unknown intruders targeted a ground-floor flat in Oberursel. They forced entry by smashing down the front door of the multi-family building. Once inside, they tore through cabinets and drawers, searching for valuables before fleeing with jewellery and an undisclosed sum of money.
In a separate incident, a local woman was tricked by fraudsters claiming she had won a lottery prize. The scammers convinced her to hand over bank details and pay fees using gift cards. After gaining access to her account, they withdrew thousands of euros before disappearing. Police are investigating both cases but have yet to identify any suspects.
The break-in left the apartment damaged and the victim without their belongings. The scam, meanwhile, resulted in significant financial losses for the woman. Authorities urge residents to stay vigilant against fraud and report suspicious activity immediately.
