Obertshausen replaces dropbox system with blue recycling bins by 2026

Obertshausen is overhauling its paper waste disposal system to tackle ongoing issues with illegal dumping. The city will introduce blue recycling bins for every household, replacing the current dropbox containers and bundled collections. Officials say the change will make recycling easier and more efficient for residents.

The new system will see paper and cardboard collected separately in dedicated blue bins, following fixed routes. These bins will be provided to households at no cost, eliminating the need for trips to collection points or loose bundling. First City Councilor Michael MĂ¶ĂŸer explained that the switch aims to simplify recycling while improving the quality of recovered paper as a raw material.

Once implemented, the blue bin system will remove the need for residents to transport paper waste to dropbox points. The change also aims to reduce contamination and illegal dumping. Full operation is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, pending further updates from the city.
