Obertshausen gets extra time for fiber-optic expansion amid sales concerns

Deutsche GigaNetz has extended its demand aggregation period for fiber-optic expansion in Obertshausen until March 4, 2024. The move follows concerns over sales practices and a push to meet the required participation rate. Residents and businesses now have extra time to register their interest in the high-speed network.

The company recently ended its partnership with its former sales provider after receiving complaints from Obertshausen officials. Reports of unprofessional conduct during customer interactions prompted the decision. In response, Deutsche GigaNetz has introduced a new sales team, with all members undergoing strict training and quality checks.

To improve outreach, the firm is now collaborating with two local companies: NTA Systemhaus GmbH & Co. KG and M-net Telekommunikations GmbH. These partners will help inform residents and businesses about the benefits of the fiber-optic upgrade. Martina Wilde, Manager of Regional Cooperations at Deutsche GigaNetz, remains optimistic about hitting the 40% participation threshold by the new deadline. This target is crucial for the project to proceed without relying on public funds.

The extended deadline gives Obertshausen more time to secure enough registrations for the fiber-optic rollout. If successful, the expansion will move forward on a commercial basis. Deutsche GigaNetz continues to work with local partners to ensure transparency and professionalism in the process.
