Obertshausen adjusts water and waste fees for 2026 with mixed cost changes

Obertshausen has announced new fees for waste, wastewater, and fresh water services. The changes will take effect from January 1, 2026, bringing adjustments to both household and commercial charges. Some costs have fallen, while others have risen in line with updated municipal pricing.

Residents will see lower charges for residual waste collection. Monthly fees for standard bins have dropped: a 60-litre bin now costs €15.50, an 80-litre bin is €20.50, a 120-litre bin is €30.50, and a 240-litre bin is €60.50. Larger 1.1-cubic-metre containers have also become cheaper, with weekly emptying priced at €553.00, twice-weekly at €1,103.50, biweekly at €277.00, and monthly at €139.50.

Other fees, however, have increased. The water charge is now €2.07 per cubic metre, up from previous rates. Wastewater charges have climbed to €2.71 per cubic metre of fresh water consumed. Additionally, the sealed surface fee has risen to €0.76 per square metre.

Between 2021 and 2025, Obertshausen's water and wastewater fees rose more modestly than the regional average. Drinking water costs increased by around 12%, from €2.05 to €2.30 per cubic metre, while wastewater fees went up by 15%, from €2.80 to €3.22. In comparison, Hessen's average saw drinking water rise by 18% and wastewater by 22% over the same period.

The updated fees reflect a mix of reductions and increases across different services. Households with smaller bins will pay less for waste collection, while water and drainage costs have gone up. The adjustments align with the town's long-term pricing trends, which remain below the regional average in Hessen.
