Obertshausen adjusts utility fees for 2026 with mixed water and waste costs
Obertshausen has announced changes to its utility fees, set to take effect from 1 January 2026. The adjustments cover water, wastewater, and waste disposal costs, with some increases and reductions across different services. The town's price shifts remain below the regional average in Hesse.
Between 2021 and 2025, drinking water fees in Obertshausen rose by around 12%, from €2.05 to €2.30 per cubic metre. Wastewater charges climbed by 15%, from €2.60 to €3.00 per cubic metre. These increases are lower than the state's average, where drinking water went up by 18% and wastewater by 22%. Nearby cities like Frankfurt and Hanau saw even steeper hikes, with rises of 20% and 19% respectively.
From next year, the water fee will be €2.07 per cubic metre, while wastewater charges will increase to €2.71 per cubic metre consumed. A new sealed surfaces fee of €0.76 per square metre has also been introduced.
On waste disposal, monthly charges for residual waste bins have dropped. A 60-litre bin now costs €15.50, an 80-litre bin €20.50, a 120-litre bin €30.50, and a 240-litre bin €60.50. Fees for large 1.1-cubic-metre containers have also fallen: weekly emptying is €553.00, twice-weekly €1,103.50, biweekly €277.00, and monthly €139.50.
The updated fees reflect a mix of higher water and wastewater costs alongside reduced waste charges. Obertshausen's adjustments remain more modest than those in many neighbouring areas. Residents and businesses will see the new rates applied from the start of 2026.
