North imports significantly more pistachios than 2023 - Northern Germany’s pistachio imports skyrocket in 2024 demand surge

Northern Germany witnessed a significant increase in nut and dried fruit imports in 2024. Businesses in Schleswig-Holstein imported far larger quantities than the preceding year, with pistachios, almonds, and baking spices driving the growth. This surge mirrors the growing demand for ingredients used in baking and food production.

Pistachio imports soared dramatically, reaching nearly 38,000 tons in 2024—up from 23,000 tons in 2023. The vast majority originated from the United States, given the minimal local production. No single company was pinpointed as the largest importer, but the overall volume underscored a clear trend.

The 2024 figures underscore Schleswig-Holstein's dependence on imported nuts, dried fruits, and spices. With pistachios and almonds experiencing the most significant increases, the region's food industry continues to rely on overseas suppliers. The data corroborates a steady rise in demand for these crucial ingredients.
