Nordhorn mayor proposes tax relief after €12M funding boost for 2026

Nordhorn’s mayor has pushed for a review of the county levy rate during today’s city council meeting. Thomas Berling believes the move could cut the planned increase for local residents. His proposal follows new financial projections for the Grafschaft Bentheim city in 2026.

The Lower Saxony State Office for Statistics recently published updated figures under the Municipal Fiscal Equalization Scheme. These show Grafschaft Bentheim will receive over €12 million in extra funds next year. The total includes €8 million in additional key allocations for city duties and more than €4 million from higher city levy revenue.

The reassessment could lead to a smaller increase in the city levy rate than originally planned. With extra funds now confirmed, the city council will examine how to adjust the budget. Residents may see lower tax demands if the proposal moves forward.
