Nigeria to Streamline Transition of Military School Graduates into NDA

The Nigerian government is set to streamline the transition of students from military-focused schools into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA). A bill amending the NDA Act has passed its second reading, aiming to harness the military training received by ex-cadets and integrate them into the NDA. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the combat strength of the armed forces.

The military-focused schools include the Nigeria Military School Zaria, Kaduna, Air Force Military School, Military School Jos, Plateau, Air Force Military School (Girls) Jos, and Navy Military School Ikot-Ituen, Akwa Ibom. Students from these schools receive both academic and military training, becoming proficient in arms and martial arts upon graduation. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) has expressed the Nigerian Army's commitment to building a well-educated and professionally competent army through strategic investment in education, including these military schools.

The lawmaker behind the bill noted that most students of these schools have acquired basic military skills and should be encouraged to pursue military careers. The National Assembly is planning to ease their transition into the NDA, creating a window of opportunity for these graduands. The criteria for admission will remain applicable to all Nigerians.

The Chairman of Parents and Instructors' Association, NMS, has urged the government to expand budgetary provisions for military training to accommodate more cadets. With the passage of the bill, the transition of military-focused school graduates into the NDA is set to become smoother, potentially bolstering the combat strength of the armed forces.
