New Year's Eve scooter vandalism in Hünfeld sparks police appeal
A Peugeot scooter was vandalised in Hünfeld late on New Year's Eve, marking another incident of property damage in the region. Police are now appealing for witnesses after the attack on Försterstraße at 10:14 p.m. The latest case follows several similar reports across Osthessen over the past year.
The unknown offenders targeted the scooter, kicking off its side mirror and deeply scratching the plastic fairing. They then turned their attention to nearby property, smashing a wooden garden gate and ramming it against the lowered roller shutters of a residential building. The total damage from the attack is estimated at around €500.
This incident adds to a pattern of property destruction in the area. Over the last twelve months, at least three comparable cases have been recorded in Osthessen. These include multiple break-ins on Hildastraße in March 2026, a lorry fire in Eichenzell-Welkers, and damaged paving stones in Bad Neustadt during July 2023. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Osthessen Police Headquarters directly on +49 661 105-0. Alternatively, reports can be made at any local police station or through the online system at polizei.hessen.de.
The investigation into the New Year's Eve vandalism remains ongoing. Authorities continue to monitor the rise in property-related offences across the region. Anyone with details about the incident is encouraged to assist the police with their enquiries.
