New Year’s Eve firework sparks kiosk blaze in Taunusstein-Wehen

A New Year’s Eve firework caused a fire at a kiosk in Taunusstein-Wehen early on January 1, 2026. The incident occurred at around 00:10 on Aarstraße, where an unknown person launched a rocket that flew through an open door, exploded, and ignited a blaze. Firefighters quickly arrived to contain the flames before they could spread further.

Separately, two burglars attempted to break into a home in Niedernhausen-Engenhahn just over an hour later. Police are now investigating both cases and seeking witnesses.

The fire in Taunusstein-Wehen began when a stray firework entered the kiosk through an open door. It struck a wall, detonated, and started a fire. Fire crews responded swiftly, extinguishing the blaze before it reached nearby residential buildings. No injuries were reported, but the damage is estimated at around €7,000. The Wiesbaden Criminal Police (Kripo) are investigating and ask anyone with information to contact them on (0611) 345-0.

In a separate incident, two burglars targeted a home on Eichenweg in Niedernhausen-Engenhahn at 1:12 AM. Investigators believe the suspects climbed onto the roof using a rain barrel before approaching a bedroom window. They fled after being spotted, with one escaping through the garden gate. Police have no detailed description of the suspects and are appealing for tips at (06124) 7078-0. Meanwhile, in Taunusstein-Hahn, a gumball machine on Zum Schwimmbad street was forcibly broken into, causing several hundred euros in damage. It is unclear whether anything was stolen. Witnesses are asked to contact Bad Schwalbach Police Station on (06124) 7078-0.

The kiosk fire in Taunusstein-Wehen was contained without injuries, though property damage reached €7,000. Police continue to investigate the firework incident, the attempted burglary in Niedernhausen-Engenhahn, and the vandalism of the gumball machine. Anyone with information is urged to come forward to assist the ongoing inquiries.
