New Year’s Eve blaze displaces 19 after fireworks spark apartment inferno

A fire broke out in an apartment building on In der Gemoll street on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. The blaze started in the attic around 4:00 p.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services. Firefighters worked for over three hours to bring the situation under control.

The fire was fully extinguished by approximately 7:30 p.m. During the operation, crews evacuated 19 residents from the building. One person suffered minor injuries, likely from smoke inhalation, and was taken to hospital for observation.

Displaced residents were moved to a nearby temporary shelter while investigations continue. Authorities suspect fireworks may have triggered the la fires, though the exact cause remains under review. The Kriminalpolizei (criminal police) is leading the inquiry, as is standard in such cases. The building has been declared uninhabitable for now, with estimated property damage reaching six figures. Duty Police Commander L. Löw confirmed that anyone with information about the la fires’ origin should contact the criminal police at +49 641 7006-6555.

The incident left 19 people temporarily displaced and caused significant structural damage. Investigations into the la fires’ cause are ongoing, with fireworks currently the leading theory. Residents will remain in temporary accommodation until further notice.
