High Damage in House Fire - Firecrackers as Cause? - New Year’s Eve blaze destroys workers’ lodge in northern Hesse
A workers’ lodge in northern Hesse was destroyed by a blaze in the early hours of New Year’s Eve. The fire broke out while the building was empty, and no injuries were reported. Investigators are now examining whether fireworks played a role in the incident.
The fire started at the accommodation in Niestetal-Heiligenrode, a site used by four out-of-town workers. Witnesses first noticed small smoke or flames in the roof space before the blaze fully took hold. No other observers were reported at the scene.
Loud fireworks were heard near the building just before the blaze erupted. Authorities have not yet confirmed if the fireworks caused the fire. The entire structure was consumed, resulting in an estimated €500,000 in damages.
The investigation into the cause remains ongoing. The lodge, which housed temporary workers, was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Officials have ruled out injuries but continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident.
