New Police Director Takes Charge in Waldeck-Frankenberg After Leadership Shift

A change in leadership has occurred at the Waldeck-Frankenberg Police Directorate. Senior Police Director Martin Berbig, with his extensive experience and proven leadership qualities, has taken over from Dirk Bartoldus, who now assumes a newly created role in Baunatal. This transition comes after a period of interim leadership in the region.

Dirk Bartoldus, who had been acting as the director since April 2025, brings a wealth of experience to his new position, including six years as duty police commander and head of the Press and Public Relations Division in Kassel, as well as multiple leadership roles within the North Hesse Police Headquarters.

Now, Bartoldus takes charge of the Traffic Safety and Special Services Directorate in Baunatal, a newly established unit that is unique in Hessen, with no comparable structure elsewhere in the state.

Martin Berbig, a resident of the Schwalm-Eder district, officially began his new role during a leadership meeting led by Police President Marco Bärtl. Berbig started his police career in 2002, working in various roles such as the Kassel riot police, the Special Deployment Unit (SEK), and later as a desk officer at the Hessian Ministry of the Interior. Over time, he has honed his management skills and leadership skills within the North Hesse Police Headquarters.

His predecessor, Tino Hentrich, led the Waldeck-Frankenberg Police Directorate for nearly three years before transferring to the Central Hesse Police Headquarters in Gießen as Chief Police Director.

Berbig's primary focus will be on bolstering prevention measures across the district to enhance safety and security for all residents in the area.

The handover signifies a change in leadership for Waldeck-Frankenberg, with Berbig bringing his years of operational and managerial experience to the role. Meanwhile, Bartoldus begins his new position in Baunatal, overseeing a directorate that is unique within Hessen's police structure.
