New fire truck acquired for Zumikon

Zumikon’s fire department is set to receive a new traffic command vehicle after the municipal council approved extra funding. The current vehicle, bought in 1999, no longer meets modern safety requirements and has outlasted its expected lifespan. Officials had already allocated CHF 138,000 for the replacement in late 2023.

In December 2023, the municipality greenlit a budget of CHF 138,000 to replace the ageing traffic command vehicle (VKF). The procurement process was finalised with Wiesbauer, the chosen manufacturer for the new unit.

However, final cost calculations showed an unexpected shortfall. Expenses for additional equipment—originally part of the operating budget—were left out of the investment budget. This oversight resulted in an overrun of around CHF 15,000. To cover the gap, the council recently approved a supplementary credit. The new vehicle will now replace the outdated model, ensuring compliance with current safety regulations.

The additional funding secures the delivery of the upgraded traffic command vehicle. Zumikon’s fire department will soon operate a modern unit, fully equipped and compliant with today’s standards. The total expenditure now stands at CHF 153,000.
