Neu-Isenburg's sports park cuts emissions with LED floodlight upgrades
Neu-Isenburg is upgrading the floodlighting at Alicestraße Sports Park to energy-efficient LED technology. The project, funded by Germany's National Climate Initiative, aims to cut both energy use and carbon emissions. Work began in late July 2023 and wrapped up the following month. The city first applied for funding on December 30, 2021, submitting two separate requests via ZUG gGmbH. One covered the artificial turf field (reference 67K21665), while the other targeted the stadium (67K21666). Both applications were later approved under the National Climate Initiative, which supports projects reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The 148,000-square-metre sports park includes four natural grass pitches and two artificial turf fields. EnergieKonzept Deutschland GmbH was awarded the contract to carry out the upgrades, starting in calendar week 30 of 2023. The new LED system will slash annual energy consumption by 13,810 kWh on the artificial turf and 28,372 kWh in the stadium. Over 20 years, the switch is projected to prevent 96 metric tons of CO₂ emissions from the artificial turf and 186 metric tons from the stadium.
The completed upgrades will bring long-term energy savings to the sports park. LED lighting now replaces older floodlights in both the stadium and on the artificial turf. The project aligns with broader efforts to reduce emissions through modern, efficient infrastructure.
