Neu-Isenburg hikes water prices in 2024 as climate change strains supply

Water prices in Neu-Isenburg have risen as of January 1, 2024, due to climate change pressures. The local utility, Stadtwerke Neu-Isenburg, has increased both the cost per cubic metre and fixed service charges, urging residents to use water more carefully. The price of tap water has climbed to €2.20 per cubic metre, up from €1.90, with an average household using 150 cubic metres a year seeing an increase of €5.75 on their monthly bill, totaling €69 annually. Fixed service charges have also increased, with customers now paying €5.00 per month for meters up to QN15, up from €3.00, and €53.50 for larger meters (QN15 and above), compared to the previous €21.40. The utility has invested heavily in infrastructure, with a €1.8 million upgrade to the water treatment plant and €2.6 million spent on improving the pipeline network. Their PURaqua drinking water undergoes a four-stage purification process, with no chemical additives used. With Neu-Isenburg residents consuming around 130 litres of water daily, the company is urging conservation due to hotter, drier summers linked to climate change. For questions, customers can contact the service team at 06102 246-199 or via email at [email protected]. The changes mean higher bills for households, but the utility points to necessary upgrades and climate challenges, with residents now paying more for water while the company continues to push for sustainable consumption. The new rates and service charges are in effect from the start of 2024.
