Museum Wiesbaden’s Bold Expansion Unveils a Sustainable Future for Art

The Museum Wiesbaden is set to expand, with its collection growing rapidly. The Hessian State Construction and Property Management Agency (LBIH) has selected the winning design for the expansion, submitted by Schenker Salvi Weber ZT GmbH from Vienna. The extension will add approximately 3,000 square meters of usable space.

The winning design, chosen from an international architecture competition, will be built on the museum's southern courtyard. It aims to create a clear visual distinction between the historic and new structures. The extension will accommodate more art, providing additional space for special and permanent exhibitions, storage, and office facilities.

The extension is designed with sustainability in mind, targeting at least Silver certification under Germany’s Sustainable Building Assessment System (BNB). The LBIH will now negotiate with the prize winners to commission the winning firm for the next phase. All competition entries will be on display at the Museum Wiesbaden’s Old Library from November 11 to 30, 2025, allowing the public to appreciate the diverse range of designs submitted.

The Museum Wiesbaden's expansion is set to enhance its exhibition space and sustainability, with Schenker Salvi Weber ZT GmbH's winning design. The extension will provide more room for art and meet high sustainability standards, benefiting both the museum and its visitors.
