Mümling Valley Bridge has been blown up
The Mümling Valley Bridge has been demolished in a carefully planned explosion. The structure was brought down on July 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM after weeks of preparation. By early September, no remnants of the old bridge remained at the site.
Preparations started in late June 2025, with crews removing guardrails and dismantling the bridge’s abutments. A sheet-pile wall was also installed along the Mümling River to stop debris from entering the water.
On the day of the demolition, explosives placed on the bridge’s four piers were detonated simultaneously. The blast marked the beginning of the mechanical removal of the remaining structure. A temporary bridge was quickly built to aid debris clearance and provide access for constructing the new crossing. Reisch Demolition Services took charge of the project, coordinating 18 different companies—a role the firm rarely undertakes. Thomas Walewski, a company representative, commended the smooth cooperation with local authorities, noting efficient decision-making and minimal delays. By August 6, 2025, the railway tracks beneath the bridge had been fully cleared of rubble. Cleanup efforts continued through August, with all visible traces of the old bridge gone by early September.
The demolition was completed ahead of schedule, with no debris left by September 2025. The temporary bridge now supports ongoing work for the new structure. Authorities and contractors have confirmed the project’s success, with no reported disruptions to the surrounding area.
