Multiple suspected arson fires strike Schwalmstadt's Treysa district overnight
Several small fires broke out in Schwalmstadt's Treysa district in the early hours of Saturday, October 11, 2025. Between 4:20 AM and 6:30 AM, multiple blaze incidents were reported along Bahnhofstraße and nearby streets. Police are now treating the cases as suspected arson and have launched an investigation into the property damage. The first fire was spotted at around 4:20 AM on Bahnhofstraße. Flames damaged paving stones over roughly two square metres. About 25 minutes later, at 4:45 AM, trash bins inside a waste enclosure in Töpferweg were set alight.
A large patio umbrella outside a restaurant on Bahnhofstraße caught fire at 5:00 AM. Shortly after, a tarp covering scaffolding in Steingasse was ignited, though the structure itself prevented the flames from reaching the building. The final incident occurred at around 6:20 AM, when a paper-recycling bin outside a snack bar on Bahnhofstraße went up in flames. Garbage bags, bins, and outdoor furniture were among the items targeted. The total damage is estimated in the low four-digit range.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Schwalm-Eder police on +49 6691 943-0. The investigation into the suspected arson remains ongoing.
