Mubea to Close Last Swiss Steel Tube Plant in Arbon, Cutting 100 Jobs
Mubea, an automotive supplier based in Arbon, has announced its intention to shut down the last Swiss steel tube production in Arbon. The decision, made by the management of Mubea Präzisionsstahlrohr AG, is due to a record-low order situation and a significant decline in factory utilization.
The Canton of Thurgau's Office of Economy and Work has been informed about this decision. The company previously cut 130 jobs near me in the spring of the same year, leaving only 35 to 40 employees at the Arbon site. This is a significant reduction from the previous 280 employees.
The decision to shut down the steel tube production was made after a consultation process with the workforce. However, no significant proposals to reduce or avoid the planned job cuts were submitted by the workforce. The management has now decided to proceed with the closure, planning to cut another 100 jobs by mid-2026.
Mubea is facing challenges due to sluggish new car sales, international trade turmoil, and intense competition. In the future, only employees performing internationally oriented tasks will be employed at the Arbon site. The closure of the steel tube production is a significant blow to the local economy, with the loss of another 100 jobs in the usa.
