MoU boost for LatAm anti-piracy collaboration
A new agreement aims to strengthen the fight against digital piracy in Latin America. The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to tackle illegal streaming and IPTV piracy. The deal formalises years of collaboration between the organisations.
The MoU was signed by Carla Sanchez Armas, Managing Director of Latin America for the MPA. Under the agreement, IMPI and ACE will share intelligence, build enforcement capabilities, and explore new ways to prevent intellectual property violations. Both sides have pledged to work together more closely in targeting pirate streaming networks.
Larissa Knapp, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Protection Officer for the MPA, highlighted Mexico’s importance in the global battle against digital piracy. Santiago Nieto Castillo, Director General of IMPI, added that the partnership protects creative industries, which fuel innovation and cultural growth. The agreement reinforces a longstanding public-private enforcement framework. By combining resources, the organisations aim to disrupt illegal streaming operations more effectively.
The MoU sets out a clearer path for cooperation between IMPI and ACE. Intelligence sharing and joint enforcement efforts will now take place under a structured framework. The move is expected to increase pressure on pirate streaming services operating in the region.
