More Flu Cases in Hesse - More Flu Cases in Hesse

Respiratory illnesses are spreading more widely in Hesse as winter sets in. Recent figures show a sharp rise in flu cases, while COVID-19 numbers remain steady. Health authorities have also recorded an increase in RSV infections across the region.

Just two weeks ago, Hesse reported only 114 flu cases. By the 50th week of the year, that number had jumped to 634. Most of these infections are caused by the Influenza A strain H3N2, which is now circulating more actively.

COVID-19 cases, however, have stayed relatively stable. The latest data from 20 December 2025 puts the seven-day incidence at 7.5 per 100,000 residents. Over the past week, 480 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed, compared to 575 in the previous week. RSV infections, which had not been recorded in recent weeks, have also begun to climb. The 50th week saw 37 cases, marking a clear upward trend.

The latest figures highlight a growing flu season in Hesse, driven mainly by H3N2. COVID-19 cases have not surged, but RSV is now appearing more frequently. Health officials continue to monitor the situation as winter progresses.
