Merz and Rhein Kick Off Municipal Election Final Sprint in Volkmarsen - Merz kicks off Hesse's final campaign push before March 15 vote
Chancellor Friedrich Merz will visit Hesse this Friday for his first campaign appearance in the state since the federal election. The event, titled The Chancellor Arrives: Merz & Rhein Live, marks the start of the final push before the local primary elections on March 15.
Merz will join Hesse's State Premier Boris Rhein at the Nordhessenhalle in Volkmarsen. Organisers expect around 2,000 people to attend the rally. Together, they will urge support for their party ahead of the vote.
On March 15, nearly 4.7 million eligible voters will choose representatives for 21 district councils and 421 municipal parliaments. The ballot will also include elections for foreign residents' advisory councils and about a dozen mayoral races.
The chancellor's visit comes as local parties intensify their campaigns for the midterm elections. His presence signals the national government's interest in the outcome of these regional contests.
The local elections will determine the makeup of councils across Hesse. With seats in hundreds of municipalities at stake, the results will shape regional governance for the coming years. Voters will decide on district, city, and town representatives in just over a week.
