Merz backs pension reform with capital market and stocks - Merz concludes 16-state tour with Frankfurt focus on pensions and infrastructure

Chancellor Friedrich Merz has wrapped up his first official visits to all 16 German states with a trip to Frankfurt. There, he focused on pension reform and plans for expanding the country’s infrastructure. His discussions included meetings with financial leaders and a session at Hesse’s state cabinet.

Merz began his Frankfurt visit at Deutsche Bank’s headquarters, where he met with key figures from the city’s finance sector. He later attended a meeting of Hesse’s state cabinet at the newly built Terminal 3 at Frankfurt Airport.

The Frankfurt visit marked the final stop in Merz’s tour of Germany’s federal states. The Pensions Commission will now begin its work, with initial proposals due by mid-2026. Meanwhile, the government is pushing for private funding to support its infrastructure and pension plans.
