Mercedes-Benz Vito smuggler caught undervaluing car by €10,000 at Belarus border

Customs officers at the Pryvalka border crossing in Grodno region have foiled an attempt to significantly undervalue a car import. A 2021 Mercedes-Benz Vito was caught with a declared value €10,000 less than its actual worth.

The Vito, entering from Lithuania, was found to be worth €26,000, nearly triple the declared value. This attempt to dodge customs duties cost the importer dearly. Had the true value been declared, duties of nearly BYN 24,000 (around $7,800) would have been due.

Grodno customs officials have launched administrative proceedings. The importer faces a fine of 30% of the car's value, which calculates to approximately BYN 26,000. This penalty is in accordance with Part 3, Article 15.5 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for providing false information about goods.

The attempted undervaluation of the Mercedes-Benz Vito has been exposed and penalised. The importer's attempt to evade duties has resulted in a significant fine, reflecting the seriousness of the offense.
