Mazlan Mahadi Acquitted: Judge Dismisses Corruption Charge

In a surprising turn of events, the prosecutor in the case of Mazlan Mahadi, a former senior officer of a Selangor government subsidiary, found himself acting as defense counsel after the judge deemed the charges baseless. The Shah Alam Sessions Court subsequently acquitted and discharged Mazlan from a corruption charge.

Mazlan was initially charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of at least RM10,000. The prosecution alleged that Mazlan had used his position to recommend a company, MMSC Ventures Sdn Bhd, for a contract worth over RM1.7 million. However, the court found that Amazon Web Services (AWS), not Mazlan, had actually recommended the company, not Mazlan. This revelation led to the judge finding no basis for the charges, prompting the prosecutor to take on the role of defense counsel.

Following the court's decision, Mazlan Mahadi was acquitted and discharged from the corruption charge. The court's finding that Amazon Web Services (AWS), not Mazlan, had recommended the company for the contract led to the dismissal of the case.
