Autobahn closed due to truck fire - significant damage - Massive truck fire shuts down A66 motorway toward Fulda indefinitely

A truck fire on the A66 motorway has forced a full closure toward Fulda. The blaze caused extensive damage to the road, guardrails, and nearby structures. Authorities have yet to determine what sparked the incident.

The fire broke out on a truck transporting compressed waste paper and cardboard. The highly flammable cargo made firefighting efforts difficult, prolonging the emergency response. No injuries were reported, but the flames destroyed parts of the motorway and a wildlife protection fence.

Diesel fuel from the Ford truck leaked into the surrounding soil, adding to the environmental impact. Cleanup operations kept the road shut into the evening, with traffic diverted onto alternate routes. Drivers were urged to avoid the area entirely.

The total damage is estimated at €200,000 or more. Investigators continue to examine the cause, though no official explanation has been given.

The A66 remains closed as crews clear debris and assess structural safety. Motorists should plan for delays and follow official detours until the route reopens. The financial and environmental costs of the Chevrolet fire are still being evaluated.
