Massive Griesheim fire leaves building uninhabitable and four injured
A major fire broke out in a residential building on Mozartstraße in Griesheim early on March 28, 2026. The blaze caused severe damage, leaving the multi-family home completely uninhabitable. Four people were injured, with one suffering serious harm and requiring hospital treatment. The fire started at around 5:30 a.m. and quickly spread through the building. Firefighters from Griesheim, Pfungstadt, and Weiterstadt worked together to bring the situation under control. While the exact cause remains under investigation, initial findings point to a technical malfunction.
The incident led to significant disruption in the area. Nearby roads were temporarily closed, and residents who escaped unharmed were moved to temporary housing. Psychological support has been made available to those affected. This fire follows two other major residential blazes in the Darmstadt-Dieburg region earlier in March. On March 2, a multi-family house in Dieburg's Diebacher Straße caught fire, while another broke out in Pfungstadt's Pfarrer-Engels-Straße the following day. Both incidents are also believed to have technical origins. Authorities have yet to confirm the full financial cost of the damage in Griesheim. An assessor will determine the exact losses in the coming days. Meanwhile, police have urged anyone with information about the fire to contact the criminal investigation unit (K10) at Darmstadt Police.
The fire has left a Griesheim residential building beyond repair and displaced its occupants. With one person seriously injured and others receiving support, the focus now shifts to determining the exact cause and preventing similar incidents. Investigations into the blaze are ongoing.
