Maruti's Reliability Outshines RTO Chaos in Author's First Car Journey
Despite a tumultuous registration process, the author's first car, a Maruti, proved reliable on the roads. The journey began in 1997 when the author visited the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Sector 17, Chandigarh, to register the vehicle.
The registration process was anything but smooth. After three months, the file went missing, only to be discovered later in a storeroom filled with discarded files. The author faced no issues with the car itself, despite the bureaucratic hurdles.
Faced with delays and a lack of information about a clerk named KK Garg, the author resorted to paying a man to expedite the process. This resulted in a temporary slip for driving for three months. However, the registration process remained repeatedly delayed, with new slips issued on each visit, pushing the registration date further.
Exasperated, the author threatened to abandon the car. This prompted the clerk to personally hand over the registration certificate the next day. The entire process took a year, with chaos reigning at the RTO, where a man offered to handle the registration for Rs 350.
Despite the chaotic and delayed registration process at the RTO in Sector 17, Chandigarh, the author's Maruti car served them well. The car itself did not cause any issues, unlike the bumpy road the author encountered while trying to register it.
