Marburg police probe hit-and-run and drug-impaired driving in February incidents
Police in Marburg are investigating two separate traffic incidents from early February. One involved a hit-and-run on Kreisstraße 79 near Sterzhausen, while another saw a driver arrested for drug offences during a routine checkpoint. Authorities are now asking for public assistance in gathering more details.
The first incident took place on February 4, 2026, when a snow-clearing vehicle—a large tractor fitted with a plow blade—struck the left-side mirror of a white truck. The impact damaged the mirror housing, but the snowplow did not stop. Investigators have yet to confirm whether the driver realised a collision had occurred.
On February 8, officers set up a traffic checkpoint on Erlenring late in the evening. Around 11:50 PM, they stopped a 28-year-old driver of an Opel who displayed clear signs of impairment. A rapid drug test returned positive for THC, opiates, and cocaine. The driver was also found to be unlicensed and presented a counterfeit foreign driver's licence, which police confiscated.
The Opel driver now faces multiple charges, including drug-impaired driving, driving without a valid licence, and document forgery.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run on Kreisstraße 79 is urged to contact Marburg Police Station at (06421) 4060. The investigations into both incidents remain ongoing, with further updates expected as evidence is reviewed.
