Marburg Police Investigate Weekend Crime Wave: Copper Theft, School Break-in, Hate Symbol Found
Marburg and surrounding areas have seen a string of attempted thefts and vandalism over the weekend and into this week. Police are investigating several incidents, including a thwarted copper theft, a school break-in, and the discovery of a hate symbol.
On Monday evening, police caught three men, aged 22, 43, and 49, red-handed in an empty warehouse on Marburger Straße, Marburg-Cappel. A witness reported seeing flashlight lights inside the building around 11 PM, leading to the suspects' arrest. They were found with burglary tools and copper pipes ready for transport.
Earlier in the weekend, a construction site container at the corner of Frankfurter Straße and Gutenbergstraße, Marburg, was broken into. Despite the thieves gaining entry, they left empty-handed, causing approximately €300 worth of damage to the container.
In another incident, unknown individuals entered a school on Ockershäuser Allee, Marburg, by climbing through a basement window and stole cash. The amount taken is yet to be determined.
A disturbing discovery was made in Gladenbach on Monday morning. A swastika sticker was found affixed to the underside of a streetlamp's glass shade on Hainstraße.
Police have arrested suspects in connection with some of these incidents but have since released them due to insufficient grounds for detention. Investigations into suspected aggravated theft are ongoing. Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact the police in Biedenkopf at (06461) 92950.
