Marburg Opens Nominations for 2026 Local Elections Ahead of March Vote

The University City of Marburg has opened nominations for its 2026 local elections. Residents can now put forward candidates for key positions across the city's political bodies. The vote will take place on March 15 next year. The Returning Officer issued a public call for nominations this week. All submissions must follow the rules in Sections 10 to 13 of the Hessian Municipal Elections Act (KWG). These legal requirements ensure candidates meet the necessary standards before standing.

The elections will fill seats on the City Council, all 27 District Advisory Boards, and the Foreign Residents' Advisory Council. The state government set the polling date under Section 2(2) of the KWG, confirming March 15, 2026, as the day for residents to cast their votes. Prospective candidates and their supporters have until the deadline to submit the required paperwork. The city has urged anyone interested to review the guidelines carefully before applying.

The 2026 local elections will determine representation in Marburg's governing bodies for the coming term. Successful candidates will take office after the March vote. The city will publish further details on the nomination process in the coming weeks.
