Marburg-Biedenkopf Honors Cultural Legacy with 40th Otto Ubbelohde Prize

The Marburg-Biedenkopf district is preparing to award its highest cultural honour for the 40th time. The Otto Ubbelohde Prize will be granted in 2026 to recognise outstanding contributions in art, local history, and regional heritage. Three winners will each receive €1,000, with applications now open until mid-April next year.

The prize celebrates achievements in five key areas: art, local history, engagement with Otto Ubbelohde's works, preservation of regional traditions, and monument conservation. Both individuals and groups can apply, including legal entities, associations, and institutions. Women are particularly encouraged to submit their work.

Applications must include a completed form, a cover letter, and supporting materials such as newspaper clippings, photographs, or flyers. These documents should clearly demonstrate the applicant's merits. All submissions must be sent under the reference 'Otto Ubbelohde Prize' to the Marburg-Biedenkopf District Committee by April 15, 2026.

The formal awards ceremony will take place in autumn 2026. Self-nominations and third-party proposals are both accepted, ensuring a broad range of candidates can be considered.

The 2026 edition marks four decades of the Otto Ubbelohde Prize. Winners will be announced later next year, with each of the three recipients awarded €1,000. The district aims to highlight those who have made a significant impact on local culture and heritage.
