Marburg-Biedenkopf honors 50 volunteer responders for 900 years of service

A ceremony in Marburg-Biedenkopf has honoured 50 volunteer emergency responders for their decades of service. Together, they have contributed nearly 900 years of work to keeping the local community at peace. The event also recognised Philipp-Pierre Justus for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. District Administrator Jens Womelsdorf and County Fire Chief Lars Schäfer led the awards presentation. Volunteers with 40 years of service were given gold medals, while those with 25 years received silver. The Hessian Disaster Response Medal in bronze went to volunteers who had served for a decade. The ceremony brought together representatives from the German Red Cross (DRK), the District of Marburg-Biedenkopf, and local fire departments. Their collaboration highlighted the long-standing commitment of emergency responders in the region to maintaining peace and safety. Philipp-Pierre Justus was also awarded the Bronze Disaster Response Merit Medal. His recognition came for managing the Municipal Distribution Center, which supplied protective equipment during the COVID-19 crisis. The event celebrated both individual dedication and collective effort. With nearly 900 years of combined service, the volunteers continue to play a vital role in Marburg-Biedenkopf’s emergency response, ensuring ongoing peace and preparedness for the community.
