Man rescued from Griesheim apartment fire as investigation continues
A fire broke out in an apartment building in Griesheim on Sunday morning. Emergency services rushed to the scene after a smoke alarm triggered a call to the control centre. The incident led to a swift response from both police and firefighters.
The emergency control centre received an alert at around 11:30 a.m. A beeping smoke detector had signalled a fire inside one of the apartments for rent.
Upon arrival, responders found a man trapped in a heavily smoke-filled apartment.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and ventilated the area. The man was safely evacuated with no reported injuries. The blaze caused roughly €500 in damages.
The Criminal Investigation Division 10 in Darmstadt has since taken over the case. As of February 2, 2026, no official cause has been confirmed. Authorities have not released any suspicions or clues about how the fire started.
