Man builds dream backyard pub after five years of hard work and $61K

Stephen Hutyra has transformed his backyard into a fully functioning pub called The Thirsty Goat. The project took five years to complete and cost around $61,000 (€56,000). Inspired by a British couple’s garden pub, he set out to create his own dream space for hosting friends and family.

The idea began when Hutyra saw a Facebook post about a couple in England who had built a small pub in their garden. Before even breaking ground, he bought furniture for the future venue. He then asked his wife for her approval before moving forward with the plan.

To fund the project, Hutyra took out a bank loan. He hired a professional contractor to handle the foundation, basic construction, and utility connections. Meanwhile, he and his family worked on the interior themselves, carefully crafting every detail over months. The finished pub now includes a fully equipped bar, air conditioning, and space for gatherings. Hutyra uses it to host friends and family during holidays and special occasions.

After five years of effort and an investment of $61,000, The Thirsty Goat now stands as a personal retreat in Hutyra’s backyard. The pub combines professional construction with handcrafted touches, offering a unique space for celebrations. Family and friends now gather there regularly for events and relaxation.
