Man Arrested After Failed Watch Theft, Seller Defends with Pepper Spray

A 54-year-old man was arrested in Frankfurt on 21 August 2025, following an attempted theft of a high-value wristwatch. The seller, a 31-year-old, used pepper spray to defend himself, complying until police arrived.

The suspect had arranged to meet the seller to buy the watch but suddenly pulled out a knife, demanding the item without payment. The seller, acting in self-defence, used pepper spray to deter the suspect. The suspect then complied and waited for the police to arrive. Both parties were taken to the police headquarters for further processing. A criminal investigation has been initiated against the seller for violating weapons laws, as pepper spray is illegal in Germany without a permit.

The attempted theft and subsequent arrest have led to a criminal investigation. The suspect faces charges for the attempted robbery, while the seller is being investigated for violating weapons laws. Police are still processing the incident.
