Man, 32, Arrested for Attempted Elder Fraud in Fulda
A 32-year-old man appeared before a judge at Fulda's local court on Thursday, accused of attempting to defraud an elderly woman from the district. The man, arrested on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, is suspected of deceiving the woman into believing her daughter was seriously ill and needed expensive medication from the USA.
The scam unfolded when the man contacted the elderly woman, claiming her daughter was critically ill and required urgent medication. He persuaded her to cover the costs upfront, totaling a significant sum. Fortunately, the woman grew suspicious and alerted the police. Acting swiftly, Fulda's criminal police arrested the man at the arranged pick-up point for the valuables on Wednesday. The investigation into the incident continues.
Following his arrest, the man was presented to a judge who issued a remand order. He was subsequently transferred to a Hessian prison. The elderly woman's vigilance likely prevented a successful fraud attempt, and the police continue their efforts to ensure justice is served.
