Mallorca’s Christmas Lottery Win Funds Cancer Research and Dreams

Mallorca has shared in nearly €2.3 million from Spain’s Christmas Lottery, thanks to a lucky number tied to a young boy’s birthday. The winning décimos, sold by Álvaro’s mother, also raised funds for children’s cancer research through a charitable initiative.

The winning number, 25412, matches the birth date of Álvaro, a 13-year-old from Mallorca living with laminopathy. His mother, Elvira Rosselló, buys the same number every year and sold 300 décimos this time. Each ticket included a €3 donation to the Andrés Marcio Foundation, which supports research and aid for children with cancer.

Around €1.8 million was distributed across towns like Inca, Palma, and Campos through La Fuerza de Álvaro, the charity campaign. Each décimo won €6,000, with proceeds going toward Álvaro’s cause. Four third-prize décimos (number 90693) also sold on the island, adding €200,000 to the total. Additional prizes included two fifth-prize wins at Carrefour centres, paying out €60,000 and €54,000. A second-prize share, bought by Bimba y Lola staff, brought nearly €200,000 in winnings nationwide, though most went to other regions.

The lottery success has boosted funds for pediatric cancer research while bringing winnings to Mallorca. The island’s total share reached close to €2.3 million, with both direct prizes and charitable contributions. The campaign’s impact will continue through the Andrés Marcio Foundation’s work.
