Major Embezzlement Trial Begins in Wiesbaden Over 112,000 Euros
A major embezzlement case is set to go to trial in Wiesbaden. The estimated damage amounts to around 112,000 euros. Sebastian Schmitt, the former SPD faction spokesperson in the Wiesbaden city parliament, is accused of receiving unauthorized wages from the AWO District Association Wiesbaden from 2015 to 2017. Christoph Manjura, the former Wiesbaden Social Affairs Deputy, will stand trial on October 9 for aiding and abetting the embezzlement.
Manjura is alleged to have received unjustified salaries from the Wiesbaden AWO district association for jobs he did not or barely performed from 2015 to 2017. The AWO manager is said to have hoped that Manjura would consider the interests of the AWO in return for the false employment relationships. The main hearing at the Wiesbaden Regional Court is scheduled for six dates. The managing director of the AWO district association and her husband are also under investigation for their involvement in the alleged scheme. Manjura is suspected of having a similar sham employment relationship with the former Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann. Despite denying the allegations, Manjura stepped down from politics in 2023 due to increasing pressure.
The trial, set to begin on October 9, will delve into the alleged embezzlement of around 112,000 euros from the AWO District Association Wiesbaden. Several individuals, including Sebastian Schmitt and Christoph Manjura, are implicated in the case. The outcome of the trial will determine the fate of those accused and potentially shed light on further corruption within the organization.
