Lufthansa Group expands accessibility with Sunflower Initiative and advisory committee

Lufthansa Group has taken a significant step towards improving accessibility for travelers with disabilities. The airline group has revamped its websites and is gradually implementing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative across all its carriers.

The rollout has seen Austrian Airlines join the initiative in 2023, followed by Eurowings in April 2023, and Swiss in 2024. Lufthansa is set to follow later this year, with the entire group expected to participate by the end of 2026.

To ensure the initiative meets the needs of all passengers, Lufthansa Group has formed the Accessibility Customer Advisory Committee in Frankfurt. This panel consists of around 20 members from the North Rhine-Westphalia State Council for Disabled Persons (LBR), representing individuals with mobility impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments, or cognitive disabilities. The committee also includes paralympic athletes Johanna Recktenwald and Nico Dreimüller, who provide valuable personal insights and expertise.

The Lufthansa Group's commitment to accessibility is commendable. With the help of its Accessibility Customer Advisory Committee, the airline group is working to enhance the travel experience for passengers with disabilities or impairments. By the end of 2026, all airlines in the group are expected to participate in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Initiative, making travel more inclusive for all.
