Lower Bavaria's First ISO Conference Aims to Strengthen Municipal Cybersecurity
Lower Bavarian municipalities recently gathered for the first annual conference of Information Security Officers (ISOs). The event, hosted by the Landshut District Administration and the City of Passau, focused on sharing challenges and best practices in municipal information security.
The Landshut District Administration, a pioneer in municipal information security, led the conference. It was the first to achieve ISIS12 certification in 2018 and has had an independent ISO position since 2022. The event complemented necessary training, such as that provided by the Bavarian Administration Academy, and highlighted the importance of regular exchanges among ISOs for prevention and enhancement of information security.
Participants discussed the increasing cyber threats that make protecting data confidentiality, integrity, and availability a critical issue. The District of Anhalt-Bitterfeld's recent multi-million euro loss due to a cyber attack served as a stark reminder of the severity of these threats. Cynthia Derra, representing the Bavarian District Association, attended the conference, underscoring the high importance of the topic for municipal peak bodies.
The conference, initiated by the Landshut District Administration and the City of Passau, is set to become an annual event, rotating among different locations in Lower Bavaria. This will further strengthen municipal information security, fostering knowledge exchange and best practice sharing among ISOs.
