Lorry overturns in fourth major crash at Frankfurt's A66 interchange

A serious lorry crash closed part of the A66 motorway near Frankfurt on Monday afternoon. The accident happened around 12:25 p.m. at the Höchst interchange, causing long delays. Emergency services rushed the driver to hospital with severe injuries after his vehicle overturned and spilled its load onto the roadway.

The 31-year-old driver was travelling along the A66 when he attempted to exit toward Frankfurt at the Höchst junction. Due to excessive speed, he lost control and veered off the carriageway. The lorry collided with a concrete barrier before tipping over, scattering several tons of soil and leaking operating fluids across the lanes.

The crash forced a full closure of the interchange while investigators examined the scene and recovery crews cleared the wreckage. Traffic remained blocked until 6:30 p.m., causing significant disruption for motorists.

This incident marks the fourth major lorry crash at the same location in five years. Previous crashes include a multi-vehicle collision in November 2025, a tipper truck overturning in June 2024, and a rear-end collision in March 2023 that left two drivers injured.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have yet to confirm whether charges will be filed. The repeated crashes at this stretch of the A66 raise concerns about safety measures at the Höchst interchange.
