Locher Confirms Beer Production in Winterthur, Expands Logistics to Appenzell

Karl Locher, owner of the Appenzell brewery Locher, has confirmed that beer production will continue in Winterthur, despite recent rumors of closure. AureΜ€le Meyer, CEO of Locher, has announced that more details will be revealed next week.

The decision to keep the Winterthur brewery operational comes after Locher acquired a majority stake in the financially struggling Chopfab Boxer AG in March 2024. Karl Locher, who is also the chairman of Chopfab's board, revealed the move in an interview with the 'NZZ'.

In addition to maintaining beer production, Locher is investing millions in all its brands and locations, including Chopfab in Winterthur. This investment is part of Locher's strategic business expansion and partnership efforts in the craft beer market. The brewery aims to strengthen its portfolio and market reach through this investment.

As part of the changes, Chopfab's entire logistics operations will move from Winterthur to Appenzell. The Winterthur warehouse will be dissolved, and all orders will be processed from Appenzell.

Despite initial rumors, beer production at the Winterthur brewery will continue under Locher's ownership. The brewery is investing in its brands and locations, including Chopfab in Winterthur, and is expanding its logistics operations to Appenzell. This move is part of Locher's strategic efforts to strengthen its position in the craft beer market.
