Local St. Nicholas Honored for 37 Years of Fundraising and Community Spirit

Lothar Mihm of Dittlofrod has received the St. Ulrich Medal for his decades of volunteer work. The award recognises his long-standing role as St. Nicholas, raising funds for families with children facing challenges. Over 37 years, his efforts have brought in more than €50,000 for local causes.

The St. Ulrich Medal is given by the town of Hünfeld to honour outstanding civic dedication. It celebrates values like responsibility, compassion, and community spirit. This year’s ceremony took place during the annual meeting of the Dittlofrod/Körnbach volunteer fire department, where city councillor Karin Grosch presented the award.

Mihm has dressed as St. Nicholas since 1986, visiting children across the region from Petersberg to Bad Hersfeld. Alongside friends acting as Knecht Ruprecht, he spreads festive cheer while collecting donations. His latest campaign raised over €3,000, supporting Aktion Hünfelder Sorgenkinder—a charity aiding families with disabled children. The organisation provides grants for medical equipment, therapy, and help with paperwork. Mihm’s contributions have made a lasting difference, with his total fundraising exceeding €50,000 over the years.

The medal highlights Mihm’s commitment to his family and community, particularly through his St. Nicholas tradition. The funds he raises continue to assist families in the former Hünfeld district. His work ensures children with disabilities receive vital support each year.
